#AtoZChallenge - R is for 'Reflux'

Reflux a.k.a spit up is not the most glamorous thing to write about but ask any new parent and they will tell you how annoying it is.

No one wants acidic food coming back up their baby's throats. Certainly not out the nose. And they definitely do not want their little darling choking on it.

Parents will try anything- smaller feed amounts, proper burping and upright positions after feeding. But spit just happens.

And no matter how many burp clothes and bibs you get, chances are the vomit will land every where else. On you. On the sofa. In the car.

Both my kids had it and I hated it. I'm glad it was not the severe version though. And exactly as the picture says.. it was always perfectly timed!!

  1. Well it's worse when you throw up as an adult later on in life. I just had a terrible encounter with GERD that actually had me hooked up to half a pint of saline .....

    1. Heart burn is terrible even for us. Cannot imagine how bad it must have been

  2. Both my children (who are adults) vomited up regularly - one time our son threw up all over himself and me as I was racing out the door to church - needless to say there was an entire wardrobe change for both of us before we managed to get out the door! Leanne @ cresting the hill

  3. I can't remember having much problem at the baby stage...but then my toddler had motion sickness well out of toddlerhood. Made for some eventful road and air trips, I can tell you :) Fortunately, it also coincided with a phase where he always wanted the father rather than mum. :D

  6. This is one thing about my children's childhood I don't miss...no, not a bit! Both of them were reknown pukers and between them managed to ruin my best sarees, they were partial to puking on silk sarees!
    The image is totally kick-ass!

  8. I did not have to face much of reflux when son was younger but these days he suffers from motion sickness whenever we travel in the hills and the road trip becomes one hell of an experience each time.

Great memories, though I can imagine how difficult this must have been to deal with at the time.

  12. Baby vomit! Ahhh... happy memories! I don't recall my kids being particularly voluminous vomiters. Usually it was enough to remember to drape the burp cloth over the shoulder after a feeding. My wife probably caught the worst of it though, as she was the one doing the back-patting more often. :)

  16. An Integra part of every baby- I think the typical baby smell is a combination of baby powder and milk and puke!!!!
